History of Mobile Phones

History of Mobile Phones

A mobile phone is a moveable telephone that can make and receive calls over a radio frequency carrier while the user is moving within a telephone service area. The first mobile phone was launched by John F. Mitchell and Martin Cooper of Motorola in 1973, using a handset weighing c. 4.4 lbs (2 kg).

Dr Martin Cooper, a Motorola researcher and executive made the first phone call from a handheld mobile phone on April 3, 1973.

These first-generation (1G) systems could support far more simultaneous calls, but still used analog technology. In 1991, the second-generation (2G) digital cellular technology was launched in Finland by Radiolinja on the GSM standard. In 2001, the third generation (3G) was launched in Japan by NTT DoCoMo on the WCDMA standard. The fourth generation (4G) is the wireless mobile telecommunications technology, succeeding 3G.Using a 4G smartphone on Verizon’s 4G LTE network means you can download files from the Internet up to 10 times faster than with 3G. LTE stands for Long Term Evolution. It’s a term used for the particular type of 4G that delivers the fastest mobile Internet experience. You’ll usually see it called 4G LTE.The fifth generation network  ( 5G) denotes the proposed next major phase of mobile telecommunications standards beyond the current 4G/IMT-Advanced standards. 5G planning includes Internet connection speeds faster than current 4G.
